The Ocala Garrison

Big B's Projects

HIGH PRIORITY

Crimson Skies to Wings of War Conversion (90%) - We've been playing Wings of War regularly as a quick pick-up game to break up the schedule a bit. I'm working on converting all of my Crimson Skies planes to the Wings of War system as a cool variant for variety.

Man o' War (50%) - I loved playing this game back in the early '90s. I've recovered my collection and have expanded it. I'll expose the group to these great rules shortly.

Mechwarrior Re-Do (50%) - Rebasing off the nasty clicky bases & creation of rules variant using Angriff as a basis which will combines quickplay with just enough complexity to make it challenging.

Ogre Miniatures (50%) - I have a large set of Ogre miniatures from Steve Jackson Games that need to be completed. It's a good set of rules for when we have cancellations from one of our larger games and needs something quick.

Space Hulk (50%) - I will be combining the remainder of 1st edition variety which was not covered in the 3rd edition rules. The new rules play very well, but I'd like to see Hybrids, Magus, and even other races brought into the fold. I may try to make my own 3D tiles as well. There are a few good commercial sets now, so that may be the logical expansion.

Warhammer Quest in 3D! (90%) - My total recreation of all base tiles (corridors, dungeon rooms, & objective rooms) in 3D. My Warhammer Quest games often start outside the dungeon, perhaps in a town or wood, with outdoor movement and terrain detail. I also like to mix manufacturer's miniatures to give variety and style to my games.

MEDIUM PRIORITY

Battlefleet Gothic (25%) - I have Imperial and Space Marine fleets. I hope to acquire Chaos, Ork and Eldar fleets in the very near future. This game plays very similar to the excellent Babylon 5: Call to Arms rules, without quite as many special actions and ship types.

Clash of Empires Ancients (10%) - I'm really liking this new ruleset from Great Escape Games and hope to have the rest of our members join me in a group project using these rules. I've already started collecting 25mm Huns and would really like to get into Normans, Saxons, & Vikings...Oh my!

Modern Microarmor (90%) - I have a large set of Germans, Americans and Russians for Battlefield Europe scenarios. I can't seem to find my French (probably loaned out) and will need to reacquire those.

Paroom Station VSF (10%) - I have already brainstormed an Atlantean campaign idea that combines Burrough's Mars with Colonial Sci-Fi mythos. Armies will include Martian colonists (Atlantaens), Germans (German SeaBattalion figures from the Boxer Rebellion), French (French Foreign Legion figs), British (Zulu War Brits), Americans (not sure yet), natives, Zanzibar slave traders, and more. This idea is pretty well fleshed out, just not as high on the totem pole as of yet.

Seven Years War (10%) - I will be rebuilding all of my 15mm armies from scratch using Editions Brokaw miniatures. Russians, Austrians & Prussians will be the start, and then I'll branch out into a few other armies such as Reichsarmee, France, Spain, Hanoverians & more in an effort to cover the mainland-Europe conflicts.

Spanish Civil War (95%) - I have collected a decent-sized collection of 20mm SCW figures manufactured by Historical Products Company. They are currently being based and will be played using an AK47 variant developed my Martin Rapier called Mexicanski '36.

Warzone (Ultimate) (75%) - I have most armies from my favorite Sci-Fi ruleset, again from the '90s. I just need to finish up a few units and bring the game goodness to our group.

LOW PRIORITY

Chariot Racing (10%) - This will be a conversion of the boardgames Circus Maximus and Circus Imperium into 3D convention ready games. I'll use 20mm plastic chariots for Circus Maximus and already own 25mm Circus Imperium chariots produced by Ral Partha many years ago. I'll contact my good friend Eric Burgess of the Charlotte Garrison for permission to use his fantastic chariot race name, NASCHAR (spinoff of NASCAR..duh!) as it would make the convention goers interested by name alone!

Chronopia (45%) - I have a winter based Sons of Chronos Army that is almost ready. I'd like to find and complete an opponent for them to call this complete.

Napoleonic Naval (5%) - This is one of my favorite periods. I have a few ships from Portsmouth Miniatures and the Close Action rules that I really enjoy. This would be fun game that I know the group would enjoy.

Space Marine/Epic conversion to Angriff (25%) - If my Mechwarrior Re-Do goes as well as we think it will, I'll probably adjust my rules algorithm to convert my Orks and Squats to use Angriff as well.

Vor the Maelstrom (10%) - When I lived in Gainesville in the '90s, I played Vor with some good friends in the Gainesville Garrison and Gainesville Gamers. I'd like to finish my Growler's and Zykhee for both nostalgia and the fact it's a really good, fun system.

WWI in East Africa (10%) - I've never been a fan of The Great War in the European Theatre; However, the fighting in Africa really opened my eyes to the potential of this period for gaming. Our good friend and former member, Steve Chin-Que, got us into the period with his great line of 20mm figures at C & Q Equipment Company.

WWI Naval using Seekrieg 5 (25%) - Having been on the playtest team for Seekrieg 5 many years ago (The Admirality), I'd like to finish my project and have this as an excellent weekend game for our group to run in the future. I currently have British and German fleets (partially painted) from Figurehead Ships and French and Germans from Navwar.

FUTURE PROJECTS

Great Northern War - Continuation of my love for 18th Century military history

League of Augsburg - Continuation of my love for 18th Century military history

Napoleonic Peninsula War - I enjoy the this part of the Napoleonic land battles and would like to eventually game it. I'm not sure as to scale or figure manufacturer, though there are definitely an abundance available. If I get to it before I retire, I'll go all out for sure.
